Chapter 3: Where am i? - Travis
I woke up, the world above me blurred. I was lying on my back, against a soft material. For a moment I was at peace. I must have hit my head, and my brothers must have given me their tiny blankets to lie on while I was out. That was a nice thought, but quite quickly it all came back to me. The Servants' Quarters. The knife. I sat up instantly, but my stomach protested this movement. I didn't fall back down, but I felt an intense pain there as I held myself up. I was in a clean, white room. Other beds like the one I was in were all around me. Some of them held other patients. Then I saw a man enter. I assumed he was the one that had healed me.
"H-How long I have been out?" I asked, voice trembling.
"About two days." The man answered. "I was worried you wouldn't wake up, what with your raging fever."
I leaned back against the headboard and sighed. Then I panicked. "Where's my family!" I shout, quickly enough to startle the doctor next to me.
"It's fine son, we found your family and they're currently living in your new home", he said with a gleam in his eye.
"New home? What do yo-" I cut off, remembering the consequences of my sacrifice. I look up at him, seriously hoping he's not pulling my leg. He nods in affirmation, smiling.
"I knew you'd like that news. Might lessen the blow of a knife to the stomach." I like this guy, he's very nice to me considering just a few days ago I was worth less than trash.
"Hell yeah! This is amazing." I sat with head in hands, amazed that my life could change so quickly for the better.
"Well, if you're feeling better..." He trails off, implying my wildest dreams.
"Feeling just fine!" I say, ignoring the jutting pain in my stomach. That could be taken care of later.
The first thing I noticed when I got to my new residence were the tears in my mothers eyes. That sight nearly had me in pieces, but I was able to hold it together, and with it, my pride. My mother often cried at every little thing, so I didn't want to be the same. It just wasn't befitting the hardened man who just took a knife for his family.
It wasn't until the next day that I was able to meet the person I had saved.
Short Chapter, as I want to get this out ASAP as just recently, my visitors spiked too 100+. No idea why or how, but if someone could enlighten me... Anyways, more coming soon!
